If you are a prophicies character: definitly try monking. it is very easy to learn and you get a lot of group experience once you hit the shiverpeaks.
Other campaigns... try ele/necro/rit

Shhh its Coloneh all he plays is derv and necro he doesn't know any better.

Anyway all the classes are even. Some just have a bigger player base because they are "easier" (they can roll their head across the keyboard and kill something).
